Our Guest Speaker for September is Sam D. Heaton
Chief – Cobb County (Georgia) Fire and Emergency Services

Chief Sam Heaton leads the 683 personnel of Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services. Heaton began his career with Cobb County Fire in October 1985. He has worked his way through the ranks of firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief of Response and was appointed Chief on May 27, 2008.
Chief Heaton has completed NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800, as well as Incident Management/Unified Command for Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism Incidents. He is a state certified paramedic, received his Associates degree in Fire Science in 1996 and is near competition of his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration. He has commanded several incidents throughout his career in the fire service. He worked in the Joint Operations Center during the G-8 Summit and as fire liaison during the National Disaster Medical System incident at Dobbins during the hurricane evacuations.
Heaton is District 7 Vice-President of the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, Past Chair of the Metro Georgia Search and Rescue Executive Board, and a member of the Georgia State Firefighter’s Association, Georgia Mutual Aid Group, and the Metro Atlanta Fire Chiefs Associations.
